The rationale of this blog and the methadology of identifying lichens

This blog is not a complete list of the iichens of Sussex; it includes lichens I have come across on my personal nature walks in Sussex, and as a volunteer walk leader with RSPB Pagham HarbourThe Lost Woods of Sussex of the Low Weald and Downs and Changing Chalk (Lewes Railway Land Wildlife Trust). I do all this work as a volunteer. I receive no payment or funding for any of my work as an amateur naturalist.

I try to identify all the lichens I see however, inevitably I will miss some,

Identification procedures:

Using appearance (morphology) with a handlesn, chemical reagent testing and microscopy of samples at home, I identify lichens using the keys and descriptions in:

Field Studies Council, Lichens on Twigs, 2003

British Lichen Society, Lichens of Great Britain and Ireland (LGBI2). The species description for LGB13; not yet complete, can be accessed on line at Lichens of Great Britain and Ireland (LGB13)
